Colonial Day
Colonial style items for students to touch and feel!
Each girl will be given a mob cap to wear for the day!
Describe your image
Colonial Day kicks off with preparations inside the classroom! The Cranium Company provides mob caps, vests, and paper tricorn hats for the students to wear for the day to help them feel like the real deal!
Following the "costuming portion" in the classroom. All of the students will enjoy an opening presentation using colonial artifacts to learn what the typical Colonist did to survive!
Students are divided into their 6 groups to rotate through 6 different stations with hands-on activities.
Lastly, we teach the students the Virginia Reel, a Colonial dance that every Colonist knew! (This portion is optional.)
Each student will bring home a mini loom, hand-dipped candle, horn book, and a punched tin design.
Dancing
At the conclusion, students are taught the Virginia Reel, a Colonial era dance.
Students will try their hand at weaving using a mini loom. A large handmaid loom and spinning wheel will also be on display!
Textiles
Tin Punch
At this station students will discover the art of tin punching.
Home Life
What? No electricity? It is hard for us to imagine. This station will teach students how to make a hand dipped candle. They even get to take it home!
Bread and Butter
For this station each student will "churn" their own butter! And who wouldn't want to eat it afterward? Everyone!
Fun and Games
Students will get their exercise trying out fun Colonial era games such as marbles, "rolling the hoop" and quoits.
Education
What educational tools did students use in the 1700s? Your students will find out first hand by creating their own hornbook and test their handwriting skills using a feather quill!
